TLI Shipping (TLIS) is a wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to managing both long-term and single shipment charters. TLIS chartered vessel programs move radioactive cargoes efficiently and cost effectively while fully complying with all regulations for ocean transport of radioactive materials, physical protection, radiation control and safe vessel operation.

TLIS offers state-of-the-art vessels with enhanced control features such as bow thrusters for superior maneuverability during port operations. These vessels are equipped with Digital Selective Calling Controllers, a Global Maritime Distress & Safety System and multiple communication systems that provide constant, rea-time communications. Vessels and crews are selected on the basis of experience in handling Class 7 (radioactive) materials, service speeds that ensure on-time delivery of sensitive cargoes and on-board lift capability that speeds (un)loading.

TLIS manages dedicated vessel shipments of irradiated materials and multiple shipments of front-end materials, including:

  • Surface contaminated objects
  • Excepted packages and limited quantities
  • Natural uranium
  • Enriched UF6
  • Enriched UO2 powder and pellets
  • Fabricated fuel

Real-Time Cargo Tracking

Through a password-protected website, TLIS customers can track vessel location, weather and sea conditions, and cargo status. This continuous, real-time system also provides shipment details, such as results of routine onboard radiation surveys. TLIS can personalize these en route reports to meet the needs of individual customers.

Freight-Forwarding Authority

TLIS is a licensed freight forwarder under U.S. Federal Maritime Commission regulations (license FMC: 17171NF) and is thus authorized to perform vessel booking services, arrange export formalities, issue dock receipts and complete Shippers' Export Declarations and related shipment documentation.

As a freight forwarder, TLIS communicates directly with Customs through an automated computer system. This link allows direct and prompt filing of Shippers' Export Declarations from TLIS offices.

Further, TLIS' on-line cargo information system gives customers immediate access to shipment status and documentation and to cargo information such as load positions.

Development of Stowage and Segragation Plans

As part of its chartered vessel operations, and also as part of the company's consulting services to the nuclear power industry, TLIS develops detailed stowage and segragation plans for vessel shipment of radioactive cargoes. These plans comply with the requirements for Class 7 cargoes, criticality control and radiation protection set by the International Maritime Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency and national regulators.
